The Peggy Rockefeller Concert 2012-2013
The Rockefeller University is pleased to announce its 2012–2013 Peggy Rockefeller Concerts, a subscription series of outstanding musical performances by internationally acclaimed artists. The concerts are held on weekday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the university's Caspary Auditorium, 1230 York Avenue (at East 66th Street) on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
Founded in 1958 by Professor Theodore Shedlovsky, the concert series was renamed in 1996 in memory of Peggy Rockefeller, wife of longtime chair of the university's Board of Trustees, David Rockefeller. These concerts provide a unique opportunity to hear world-renowned artists at affordable prices made possible by university sponsorship and your gifts in support of the series.
Pieter Wispelwey
cello
Pieter Wispelwey is among the few performers who are equally at ease on the modern or the period cello. His acute stylistic awareness, original interpretation and technical mastery led to his being the first cellist to receive the Netherlands Music Prize, which is awarded to the most promising young musician in the Netherlands. Wispelwey has appeared as soloist with many leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony, Tokyo Philharmonic and London Philharmonic.

Alessio Bax
piano
Alessio Bax is known for his lyrical playing, insightful interpretations and impressive facility at the piano. Since taking first prizes at the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition and the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, Bax has won audiences across the globe. Bax has appeared as a soloist with such renowned orchestras as the Dallas Symphony and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. In 2009 he was awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Pacifica Quartet

Recognized for its virtuosity, exuberance and often daring repertory choices, the Grammy Award-winning Pacifica Quartet has carved out a compelling musical path. The group was named Musical America’s 2009 Ensemble of the Year and has been appointed quartet-in-residence at Indiana University’s Jacobs School. They have also served as resident performing artists at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago.

Kiera Duffy

American soprano Kiera Duffy is recognized for both her gleaming high soprano and insightful musicianship in repertoire that ranges from classical to modern. Her work last season included a debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and performances with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera. She has received recognition from esteemed organizations such as the Metropolitan Opera National Council and the Young Concert Artists International Competition.

Mike Longo Jazz Trio

Mike Longo is a jazz pianist, composer, and author best known for his work with the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet and the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Band. In the 1960s he started the Mike Longo Trio, which has been active ever since. With at least 18 albums to his name, Longo has received several awards, including a scholarship from the Ft. Lauderdale Symphony Orchestra and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Strata

Strata is a coming together of three musical talents capable of making even the most complex works accessible and exciting. All holders of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Juilliard School, the members of Strata have been playing together for 20 years. They have been resident artists at the Banff Centre for the Arts and appeared in New York City under the auspices of the International Society for Contemporary Music.

SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION
A subscription, which consists of one ticket for each of six concerts, is $150. Individual tickets can also be purchased at the door for $30. Tri-Institutional students and postdocs are eligible to purchase up to two subscriptions at the reduced rate of $60 each.
Subscribers who cannot attend a particular concert may exchange their unused tickets for another concert, allowing them to bring guests to the alternate concert. Exchanges are contingent on advance notice and ticket availability for the alternate dates.

BUFFET SUPPER INFORMATION
The pre-concert buffet supper in the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Dining Room starts at 5:30 p.m. Reservations are required and are taken on a first-come, first-served basis (please fill out the enclosed form).
The cost of the dinner is $39 per person plus tax. Payment for the buffet will be processed prior to each concert. Restaurant Associates will contact you two weeks prior to the dinner to confirm your reservation and obtain credit card information. Wine, which is available at an additional charge, and gratuity can be paid for the evening of the concert.
All cancellations must be received at least two business days prior to the concert, or the credit card number provided will be billed.
