Scientists

The university’s 73 current heads of laboratory continue a more than 110-year dedication to basic biological and biomedical research. In addition to its regular faculty, the university has 18 faculty emeriti, many of whom maintain active research programs, six Tri-Institutional faculty, who are based at neighboring Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center or Weill Cornell Medical College, seven independent fellows and 18 research affiliates. Fellows and research affiliates conduct notable independent research in areas as diverse as infectious diseases and physics, often in collaboration with heads of laboratory. The Howard Hughes Medical Institute, in addition, supports 15 Rockefeller faculty members as investigators and one as an early career scientist. Faculty members are primarily recruited using an open search process designed to identify the best and most innovative scientists regardless of their field of study.
