The Rockefeller University Institutional Review Board (RU IRB)
The Rockefeller University Institutional Review Board (RU IRB) reviews the ethical suitability of all research investigations in the University that involve human participants. The primary purpose of such review is to assure the protection of the rights and welfare of the human subjects. This includes all proposals for research as well as ongoing or long-term clinical research protocols. The IRB meets monthly to review and to approve, modify, or disapprove all research projects involving human participants. It approves research projects based on determinations that risks to participants are minimized; risks to participants are reasonable in relation to anticipated benefits; selection of participants is equitable; informed consent will be sought and appropriately documented; the data collected will be monitored to ensure the safety of participants; and the privacy of participants and confidentiality of data will be maintained. The RU IRB Chairperson has signature authority for communicating IRB actions to Principal Investigators.
The IRB consists of members of both sexes, and includes non-scientific members and members not affiliated with The Rockefeller University. The IRB is administered through the Institutional Review Board Office that utilizes a computerized system to prepare monthly agendas, track protocols through each step of the review and approval process, record minutes of the IRB, and prepare reminders for renewal protocols.

Clinical Facilities and The Center for Clinical Translational Services
The Rockefeller University Hospital has been devoted solely to patient-oriented research since its founding in 1910. In September 2006, the University was awarded a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the NIH National Center for Research Resources. Rockefeller University Hospital exists solely to conduct clinical research. The specialized personnel and other resources available at the Hospital facilitate clinical research for both the investigator and the research participant.
