Overview of the Rockefeller University HRPP
Research is an intrinsic part of the Mission Statement of The Rockefeller University (RU) and of The Rockefeller University Hospital (RUH) as articulated by The Board of Trustees of the University and its Committee, The Rockefeller University Hospital Committee.
The mission of the University and its Hospital is to promote the health of humankind and enhance quality of life by conducting clinical research and providing quality patient care in an environment where science, medical practice and learning blend to advance medical scholarship in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
RU in its Hospital and research laboratories conducts research that advances the knowledge and understanding of medicine. In clinical research we depend upon the altruism and generosity of volunteers to help advance medical science. Our goal, and our pledge to our research subjects, is to conduct all research under the most stringent ethical guidelines, maintaining the highest level of quality and ethical transparency, and providing a systematic mechanism to protect the welfare and rights of these volunteers. In order to meet this goal, RU has established a Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). The Human Research Protection Program operates under the authority of the RU policy “Human Research Protection Program (HRPP)” adopted on November 17, 2010. The RU HRPP received full AAHRPP accreditation in March 2011.
