BIOME is a dedicated community development effort that supports Rockefeller scientists and staff through the co-creation of tailored resources, programs, and events related to mentorship.

BIOME is currently in its third year and continues to iterate on programming based on community feedback and needs.


Program Overview

BIOME supports the mentorship development of Rockefeller University community members through a suite of mentorship resources, community-specific programming, and broader professional development events. BIOME seeks to connect members of the community—through professional and social opportunities— in a broader effort to normalize and encourage best practices in mentorship so that all individuals are empowered to pursue their scientific career goals.


Examples of Past and Ongoing BIOME Initiatives

Since its inception in 2021, BIOME has hosted over 15 mentorship-related workshops, 2 advisory boards and over 12 distinct initiatives and resources. Many of these can be found on RockEDU Online.

Ongoing Mentorship Development Initiatives (Annual Cycle)

 

Postdoc Pods (2021- )

Peer mentoring program that connects postdocs in “pods” for professional development and social connections. 

SSRPeers (2022 – )

Peer mentoring program that connects SSRP students, 1-1, for professional development and social support. 

Research Assistant Advocates (2023 – )

Mentorship program that connects research assistants with graduate students and PIs for support on applying to graduate, medical, and MD PhD programs. 

Chalk talks for Postdocs (2024 – )

Postdoc mentoring program that provides training, feedback, and mentorship on how to deliver a successful chalk talk for a faculty position.
