New York Structural Biology Center
The New York Structural Biology Center (NYSBC), which opened in 2002, is a nonprofit consortium founded by nine academic research institutions, including The Rockefeller University. NYSBC is a well-established collaboration whose mission is to provide advanced resources in structural biology to its members and to conduct independent research. Its main facility, located in Harlem, houses advanced instrumentation in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, cryoelectron microscopy, high throughput protein production and home source x-ray generators. A second facility, at the National Synchrotron Light Source NSLS-2 at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, will house NYX, the center’s new beamline developed to exploit the brightness of NSLS-2. NYSBC’s services include access and expertise in these technologies as well as training in instrumentation and techniques and accredited classes. The NYSBC also offers high throughput gene-to-structure and protein production services in soluble and membrane proteins.
