Some human viruses evolve rapidly to erode human immunity. Dr. Jesse Bloom will discuss how high-throughput experiments can be used to understand and to some extent forecast this evolution.

Jesse Bloom is a professor at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center and an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research group uses a combination of experimental and computational approaches to study the evolution of viruses. Jesse received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Caltech where he worked with Frances Arnold, and performed his postdoctoral research also at Caltech with David Baltimore.
