Mycoplasma Testing

Cell lines are tested for mycoplasmal contamination by testing the media in which they are growing in a biochemical assay that detects enzymes conserved in the vast majority of about 200 mycoplasma species, but are not present in eukaryotic cells.

Media samples are tested weekly on Wednesdays.

Contact the facility at 646-888-2331 / skiabcf@mskcc.org for information on how to:

  • Prepare/submit samples so that you can trust a negative result
  • Clean contaminated cultures
