Paris Piano Trio opens 51st Peggy Rockefeller Concert Series
The Rockefeller University begins its 51st season of the Peggy Rockefeller Concerts this evening with the Paris Piano Trio. Seven additional concerts are scheduled between now and May 2009.
Through the Peggy Rockefeller Concerts program, a subscription series, the university has played host to some of the world’s most renowned soloists, duets, chamber ensembles and musical groups from across the globe, including opera soprano Kathleen Battle, jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, virtuoso violinist Leila Josefowicz, pianist and conductor James Levine and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Founded in 1958 by noted electrochemist and Rockefeller professor Theodore Shedlovsky, the Peggy Rockefeller Concerts have been held since their inception in Caspary Auditorium, a neighborhood landmark designed by Harrison and Abramovitz and opened in 1958.
All concerts begin at 8 p.m., and pre-show dinners in the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Dining Hall are open for reservations. Subscriptions for the Peggy Rockefeller Concerts series can be obtained through the university’s Web site or by calling the concert hotline at 212-327-8437.
