Rockefller donated $10,000 to public school

The Rockefeller University has donated $10,000 to New York City’s Public School 183, Robert Lewis Stevenson Elementary School. The money is designated for the school’s science program and will be used to purchase equipment and supplies and pay for other costs associated with teaching science to children in grades K through five.

“PS 183 is our neighbor on the Upper East Side and many of the children of our faculty, staff, students and postdocs are enrolled there,” says Paul Nurse, the university’s president. “We’re pleased to be able to contribute this money to support their science education program.”

At Nurse’s invitation, a group of the school’s administrators, teachers and parents came to Rockefeller last week to receive the check as well as tour a laboratory and meet with faculty members and parents. Josh Klaris, PS 183’s principal, accepted the gift on behalf of the school.
