Amy Wilkerson Promoted Director of Laboratory Safety and Environmental Health

The Rockefeller University has promoted Amy Wilkerson to director of laboratory safety and environmental health.

Wilkerson will be responsible for developing policies and procedures regarding biological infectious agents, chemical and radiation safety programming and waste management. She also manages the employee exposure control and occupational safety programs, which ensure a work environment that is consistent with governmental regulations and university policies.

Wilkerson earned her bachelor of arts cum laude in geology from Smith College in 1984. She continued her education and earned a masters of arts in geochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987.

Before her promotion Wilkerson held five positions in the Laboratory Safety Department at the university: administrative assistant, assistant to the director, assistant to the director/associate safety officer and program coordinator/safety officer.

Prior to joining Rockefeller University in 1987 she was a research assistant in the Stable Isotope/Mass Spectrometer Laboratory at the University of Texas in Austin.

Wilkerson is a member of Sigma Xi, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the International Registry of Environmental Engineers and Compliance Professionals, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Rockefeller University Safety Committee and the Laboratory Safety Committee for Biohazards, Radioisotopes, Toxic Chemicals and Carcinogens.

Wilkerson resides in Manhattan.
