BIOGROW
The BIOGROW (Bioscience Initiative for Outreach, Growth, and Research Optimization for Well-rounded Students) Program is a year-long supportive community for first year graduate students that centers on building an inclusive community in the biosciences.
Program Goals
- Increase the diversity of scientists within the biosciences
- Create inclusive spaces for incoming students
- Support student development and success
- Foster scientific and professional development
Program Details
- BIOGROW will run from January through December 2025.
- Scholars are given the opportunities to lead or participate in meaningful activities such as monthly cohort meetings, professional development sessions, and social events. Session examples include career panel, mentorship, conversation on work life balance, tips on getting your paper published, etc.
- Scholars will gain real-time leadership experiences as they help lead and direct BIOGROW student committees to ensure that the program is calibrated to meet their specific needs:
- Leadership committees include: Community-building, Professional Development, and Communications.
Eligibility
All first-year graduate students are eligible to apply.
Application Process
Application will open in early November. The review committee will select the scholars based on the fit of the applicants to the program goals and slot availability. We will notify the scholars in mid-December 2024.
The Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will host a virtual info session at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 for the 2025 cohort.
All selected scholars MUST be able to attend the welcome orientation on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, 5:30-7:00 p.m. in Kellen BioLink.
